How to Name Your Podcast

Naming your podcast is important and it can also be a bit stress-inducing. We can put a lot of pressure on ourselves to come up with something brilliant.

But naming your podcast doesn’t have to be heartburn inducing and it certainly shouldn’t hold up your progress.

The name of your show should be descriptive, compelling, and short. It should tell your audience exactly what your podcast is about. Here are a few guidelines to follow when naming your podcast:

      • Avoid ambiguity. Your title should be clear over clever so that people immediately understand what your podcast is about.

      • Be concise. Keep it brief, you don’t want your name to get cut off. The average podcast title is 25 characters long.

      • Descriptive names. Tell your audience what to expect by combining two words that talk about the main topic and desired outcome/what you offer.

      • Alliteration. Alliterative titles are fun and easy to remember.

      • Nix the word “podcast.” You don’t need to include the word “podcast” in your title. Save those characters for text that will tell listeners why they should listen.

If you’re still having a tough time coming up with a name, try using an online podcast name generator. There are several, just “Google” it!

After you’ve come up with a name that you like, ask a trusted friend or family member for feedback, and then move on!
