How to Create the Right Environment for Recording

How can you create a recording space that will help you produce a professional sounding podcast when you’re not in a studio? Whether you’re recording in your home office, at your dining table, or perhaps in your closet, follow these tips for creating the right environment for recording your podcast:

1. aesthetic and comfort

You want good vibes while recording so that you can put the best energy out into the world. Make sure the space you’re recording in feels comfortable, cozy, has nice lighting, maybe even some plants…what ever makes you feel happy and calm when you look around the space.

2. soundproof your room

To avoid echoey audio, avoid rooms with lots of hard surfaces. Carpet and soft surfaces will absorb noise best. You can throw a blanket on hard floors or invest in acoustic panels for less than $20.

3. The right temp

If the space you record in is too cold, your body will tense up, and you’ll be able to hear it in your voice. You want to be as relaxed as possible so make sure the thermostat is set to a comfortable temperature.

4. the right environment

If you plan on using the batchworking method to record your podcast, you could be in the same space all day recording episodes. If the air is too dry, it can make you cough and weaken your vocal chords. If you’re noticing that your space is too dry, try using a humidifier to add some moisture back into the air.

5. A place for everything

There’s a certain calm that comes over me when I know that everything is in its place. When my recording area is free of clutter, I’m better able to focus on the recording process. Of course you’ll need a place for your laptop and microphone but also consider having a place for a glass of water, notebook, tissue…and anything else you’ll need for a successful recording session.

Consider these five things and you’ll be on your way to creating an environment that is set up for recording professional sounding podcast episodes.
